For those of you who haven’t heard… tonight is the famous annual 4th of July concert in Symphony Park, featuring patriotic music from the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, conducted by our beloved Albert-George Schram, and concluding with fireworks as Independence Day 2008 begins.
Three prominent members of the Squicciarini family will be in attendance this evening… in fact, we’re already at Symphony Park. I’m writing this from my Tecra M7, using a Sprint wireless broadband card. We’ve been camped out here since dawn, to ensure a good seat for the performance… only 8 hours left to go.
j/k. But we do advise coming early.
Happy Independence Day to everyone!
And Happy Birthday to… me.

Let’s not talk about your birthday until the country has finished celebrating it’s, ok, STP?
Anyone up for a concert in the Park? We’ll be there…sometime. Hope there’s room left for us – it was tough last time (!)

MC, I can talk about my birthday absolutely anytime. 2 days is simply not enough lead time to get the proper hype for such a prestigious occasion. After all, this is a big year!

Every year is a BIG year with you! Although you do not seem to be getting any bigger at all!
But since your birthday is very important to me as well as to you, I will go ahead and wish you a very blessed birthday !!!

Thank you, Mums. What a sweet comment. Now you just need a picture for your wordpress ID

I’ve had a lot of birthdays and they are getting smaller each year. Soon they will fade away completely. how important is an annual event anyway? Each new day is a blessed event in my book!

Wouldn’t life be unbearably dull without birthdays? Besides, commemorating the gift of life is surely worthwhile.
And on that note, I heard ’someone’ currently living in Bristol is getting me a $48,999 Hermes Birkin bag… ???

Happy Independence Day to all! We will be watching The Patriot and A Few Good Men here at The Residence during this weekend, so any of you are welcome to drop by… remember: We are VERY spontaneous!

What a fantastic fireworks show! The most impressive I’ve ever seen. The best moment last night was when the orchestra began to play “America the Beautiful,” and literally thousands of people started waving their cell phones – it was dark by then, and all you could see were tiny bright lights everywhere, almost like electronic fireflies. It was truly moving.

Thank you, narnia95, for getting us back on the important subject of our country and it’s beginning :-}
I’m sure no one has the guts to mention that in years past, we (meaning, the three of us) have sat in various different spots, including right next to one of those huge sewer “things” – wow, was that awful! Picking a good area is essential to the enjoyment of the concert. This time, we got a pretty good one, although there were times when I felt like I would slide right into the next couple’s pimento spread.
Be that as it may, we had a really good time listening to the wonderful patriotic music, and actually spotted two families we knew – the Atkinsons and the Boyds. Fun fun fun!

Last night was incredible! It’s one of my favorite concerts to go to at the park – the fireworks are breathtaking.
Unbelievably, our one person travel stadium blanket was able to fit all three of us! Thank goodness we didn’t bring any snacks with us, I don’t think there was room for any.
So, when are we having dinner with Schram?
July 4, 2008 at 5:13 pm
I know – there’s an old adage, “If one doesn’t enter the raffle, one will never win the raffle.” Seeing as we don’t ‘do’ raffles, and can therefore never win the first prize, which is DINNER WITH MR. SCHRAM, then I think we should do it ourselves.
Gotta make your own fun, right?

So, we got to Southpark early… and for *some* reason the girls had cheesecake on their minds. Despite my efforts to dissuade them, and have something healthy like banana chips and ice water, we predictably ended up at the Cheesecake Factory.
July 4, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Duh. If you want cheesecake and your up in SouthPark, where do you go?
July 4, 2008 at 5:17 pm
Tough one – the cheesecake was terrific, but you really can’t beat Earth Fare’s spelt pizza – it’s out of this world!

Remind me next time that basil pesto has garlic in it…

MC, you have not counted correctly – we also saw Dan and Judy Getzinger. That’s 3 couples, not counting Mike McKay and Albert-George Schram, who we also know. And don’t forget about Meredith Miller and her family. I’m sure there were a lot more people we knew but didn’t see.
July 4, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Probably… as the Squicciarini family is famous for seeing someone they know wherever they go.
July 4, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Oh, thanks for all that, STP. I know you want to make it sound like the Squicciarini Family always see someone they know, but…
Oh, wait – we do!
